A History of Ralph's

The building we own was built around 1900. It was built as two storefronts and one apartment above. In its 100+ years the building has housed many things, a "surprise" store, a library, consignment store, and office. We are now one of many in a series of restaurants. The Gin's added what is now the kitchen in the 1980's and after many years they sold the building to the Gallagher's who owned it for quite a few years and operated it as Gallagher Galley. They rented the space to Cathy Carmichael who operated The Purple Heart Cafe for a short time before the Gallagher's sold the cafe to us in 2003.

The kitchen was not up to code when we bought the cafe, so we had to spend the better part of a year buying and installing all new equipment and upgrading the building. After a long 8 or 9 months, we opened our doors on October 28 2004.

Since we have opened we have been mentioned in The Boston Globe, Afar Magazine, The Republican Journal, The Bangor Daily News, WABI Bangor, Belfast Bay and Beyond, and for years we have been chosen as one of Maine's best restaurants in The Bangor Metro Magazine.
