MMMM Doughnuts

As many things do at Ralph's, making our own doughnuts began with the thought, " i can do that." For years people would come in with doughnuts they had bought at a shop in Unity that had a doughnut day on Wednesday. I tried them and to be honest i thought i could do a better job. So I set out to find a doughnut recipe i liked, i tweaked one and started making doughnuts on Thursdays the same week i thought "I can do that"

Maple Bacon Doughnuts

The first Doughnut day was in May of 2015 and i have not stopped making them since. I actually thought of buying a food truck in Belfast at one point to just sell doughnuts in for the summer. But that idea made me even more tired than I already am.

That first year i only made 2 dozen doughnuts on Thursdays, now we are up to 5+ dozen and we are selling out before 10am, so i might have to make more this year.

I have made many varieties of doughnut from the "normal" flavors of chocolate and plain glazed, cream and jelly filled, but I like to experiment and see what happens. so far I have made Maple Bacon, Blueberry Ginger, Lemon Meringue, Cherry Cheesecake, Thin Mint, Oreo, Coconut, Raspberry Lemon, Peanut Butter, Fluffernutter, Nutella, and S'mores just to name a few.

Every Doughnut is made the day before and allowed to slowly rise in the refrigerator overnight to make the dough have more flavor. They are a labor of love that i hope everyone enjoys.

The Doughnuts are ready usually around 8:30am and currently we send 1 dozen of the doughnuts to the Marsh River Coop in Brooks to sell on Thursday too.
